We came here for a date night on a Friday and had such a lovely experience. The Friday 3-course menu is only €42, which we thought was incredible value for the quality of the food.

For our starter, we got the tuna tartare and it was absolutely sensational. The cocktails were delicious too, and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming.

For our mains, we had the trout and the fillet steak. The steak has a supplementary charge, but it was definitely worth it. The fillet was a really generous size compared to what we’ve had at other restaurants, where you’d easily pay around €39 for the steak alone.

The staff were all so friendly and attentive throughout the evening, which made the experience even better. We had a fantastic night and will definitely be back. Highly recommend!

Response from the owner

I visited Neighborhood in Naas for my 51st birthday with close friends and family. I had recommended the restaurant, so I was really looking forward to the evening.
The starters were exceptional for everyone at the table. Presentation and flavours were excellent. The chicken mains ordered by our partners were also very good and looked beautifully cooked.
Unfortunately, the evening was badly let down by my main course and the service around it. Myself and my friend Gerry both ordered the fillet steak with the €10 supplement. Gerry’s fillet was cooked perfectly, but mine was very disappointing. It was gristly, hard to cut, not cooked correctly, and did not taste right.

I sent it back. The replacement steak came out within only three or four minutes, which immediately concerned me. It looked like the tapered end of the fillet, the portion looked smaller, there was less salad on the plate, and under proper light it was clearly rare. It was worse than the first steak.

There were also basic service issues. There was no salt or pepper on the table, and we had to ask for it during the mains. When my first steak was taken back, my cutlery was also removed, but no fresh cutlery was brought with the replacement steak. I had to sit there with the second steak and no cutlery to eat it.

The service was mixed. Some of the waiting staff seemed very young and did not really acknowledge the issue properly. At times it felt as though we were inconveniencing them by raising a genuine problem. That said, two members of staff were excellent, apologised sincerely, and tried to handle the situation professionally.

In fairness, the restaurant did not charge me for my meal or for my two bottles of Corona, which I appreciated. However, the overall experience was not enjoyable. Because it was my birthday and I had recommended the restaurant, I felt embarrassed and ended up paying for my friends’ meal myself.

There were clearly strong points — especially the starters and the chicken — but my fillet steak, particularly with a supplement, was very poor. The lack of basic table service and the handling of the replacement made the evening disappointing. Not the birthday experience I had hoped for.

What a find! I wish I came across this restaurant sooner. We were spoiled with oysters to start, followed by prawns & foie gras, steak & hake for mains and the brown butter cake for dessert which literally melted in your mouth.

For €55, you get a 3 course premium menu and it’s such amazing value for a date night or special evening out.

If you’re looking for a cosy, elevated dinner spot, this is one to add to your list.

Response from the owner
